Abstract

776,890. Mechanical couplings for cable armouring; junction boxes. HAWKE, W. Dec. 9, 1955 [Jan. 11, 1955], No. 789/55. Class 38 (1). In a clamping gland for cable armour C, the armour is laid over one end of a flanged sleeve D located between a gland body A and a cover F screw-threaded thereon, the clamping being effected by a sleeve E forced over the armour by the cover F when the latter is screwed on to the body A. A clamping washer G is simultaneously contracted on to the inner cable sheath H by being compressed between the other end of sleeve D and a shoulder in body A. Fig. 4 shows a modification wherein the outer end of cover F has an externally screw-threaded spigot f3 projecting therefrom on to which screws a nut J for the purpose of contracting on to the outer sheath of the cable a sealing washer K located between the spigot and nut. The gland may have attached thereto a sealing box M, Fig. 5, for the connections 0 between the cable cores P and other conductors Q. Gland body A, or the sealing box where provided, is attached to a fitting by a screwthreaded spigot a<SP>2</SP> or m<SP>2</SP> or alternatively a flange with apertures for securing studs may be provided.
