Abstract
931,509. Mechanical couplings for wire armourings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Jan. 8, 1962 [Jan. 9, 1961], No. 857/61. Class 38 (1). In a metal cable gland in which the armouring 20 is gripped between conical clamping members 1 and 2 drawn together by, for example, screws 21 a housing is provided consisting of two parts 24, 25 which are drawn together e.g. by engaging screw threads, to relieve the stress on the screws 21 by co-operation of an abutment 28 on the part 24 with a flange 6 on the member 1. In another arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown) the clamping members are drawn together by an nternally screwthreaded ring. Sealing rings 9 and 17 may be provided bonded to the housing parts. An earthing clip may be used with an extremity of the loop of metal around the gland looped back to form a ferrule. When used with double wire armoured cable the gland has a further conical clamping member between the other two.
