Abstract

946,629. Clamping glands. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 8, 1962 [Dec. 11, 1961], No. 44265/61. Heading H2E. A cable-clamping gland comprises two screwthreaded body parts 2 and 3, having restricted dimensions 9 and 12 at each end, the body part 2 being mounted in an apparatus wall 6. The body parts 2 and 3 when screwed together provide a passageway for the cable 1 which is partly encircled by a flexible clamping member 13, which when the body parts are tightly screwed together, is clamped on to the cable. This clamping member is cylindrical in form, thus exerting a radial clamping force and can be fluted on its outer surface 15, to increase flexibility. The body part 2 is secured to the wall 6 by a fixing nut 7 and carries stop pins 8 to prevent rotation of the assembly. The clamping member 13 may be constituted by a flexible strip of insulating material bent to a cylindrical form.
