Abstract
1,048,044. Carrying conductors through partitions. TELEPHONE CABLES Ltd. Sept. 4, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962], No. 33846/62. Heading H2E. A cable gland for a polythene-sheathed stub 0 cable 3, Fig. 2, comprises a tubular member 6 providing a tubular stub secured around the opening 5, in the casing 1, through which the cable passes, and a polythene sleeve 11 sealed to the member 6 and welded to the sheath 3 at 12, the parts of the assembly outside the casing 1 being encased by a synthetic resin moulding 13. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the sheath is bonded to a castellated portion 7 of the brass member 6, which is secured in position by a nut 9, a corrugated copper washer 10 being used to seal the member to the top of the steel case. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the sleeve is sealed to the tubular member 17, using a rubber putty ring 24, by means of a flanged member 21 screwed down onto the ring 17, which is held in the aperture by welding at 19. In both embodiments the resin moulding 13 is keyed to the case 1 by means of an internally threaded ring 14 welded to the case top. A butyl rubber putty annulus 15 secured by whipping 15 to the sheath, protects it from the sharp edges of the moulding 13.
