Abstract

1,098,724. Cable glands. CLANG Ltd. Sept. 8, 1965 [Sept. 15, 1964], No. 37605/64. Heading H2E. A gland for making a fluid tight connection to a cable at the entry to electrical apparatus in casing 1, comprises a nut 4 which when screwed on to casing 1 forces a tapered collet 9 radially inwards to grip the cable and axially to compress resilient ring 7 via washer 8 to form a fluid-tight seal. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) a gland nut (11) is screw threaded on an extension (12) so that the radial movement is performed when a grip nut (18) is screwed thereon, and the sealing by compression of the ring (17) is accomplished when the gland nut (11) is screwed on to the apparatus casing. Any space inside the gland may be filled by a sealing compound.
