Abstract
937,311. Junction boxes. HAWKE CABLE GLANDS Ltd. Feb. 10, 1962 [Feb. 11, 1961], No. 5180/61. Class 38 (1). An electric joint box consists of an outer tubular metal body 1 which is clamped in position by washers 20 mounted on thimbles 18 screwed on to cable glands 2. The outside of each thimble 18 is threaded at 21 to enable nut 22 to axially compress washers 20 so that they expand radially and grip the body 1; but the thread 21 is of limited length to prevent over compression of the washers. Setscrews 24 may be provided in tapped holes in the body 1 to engage circumferential grooves 26 in the thimbles and these may act as earthing terminals. The body is so dimensioned that it can be passed over one of the glands while the joints are made-off and the body may be provided with screw plugs 27 to allow the inside of the body to be filled with a sealing compound after assembly.
