Abstract
832,589. Stuffing-boxes. RICHARDSON, F. L. Jan. 31, 1958 [Jan. 31, 1957], No. 3282/58. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XXXVI] The tubular body of a fluid-tight gland is secured in an aperture in a partition by a flange seating on one side of the partition and a nut screwed on the gland bearing against the other side; also a grommet in the body of the gland is compressed on to a cable or the like passing through it by a cap which screws on the end of the gland. As shown the body flange 12, the nut 30, and the cap 20 are each provided with slots as at 34, Fig. 3, to co-operate with a spanner, and a neoprene " O " ring 46 may be provided under the nut 30. The body 10, the nut 30, and the cap 20 may all be of plastic such as nylon, as also may be the washers 40 and 42. If a cable 50 having armouring or a metallic sheath is used, this may be flared 50a between the two washers 40 to secure the cable longitudinally, and also to secure an earthing strip, not shown, if required. The grommet 44 may be of neoprene, and a number of them may be provided having different sized bores.
