888,381. Mechanical couplings for cable armouring. PRATLEY, G. M. May 6, 1960 [May 22, 1959], No. 16182/60. Class 38 (1). A cable gland has a nipple 16 screwed into the housing 14 to regulate the position of a tapered bush 23 and thus allow different thicknesses of armouring 18 to be tightly gripped between the bush 23 and a coned. nut 20 when the nut 20 is screwed into the housing 14. The pitch of the thread on the nut 20 is different from that on the nipple so that turning the nut does not unscrew the nipple. The gland is fixed to a box 12 by a nut 24 screwing on to the nipple. The nut 24 or housing 14 may have spigots such as 26 to centre the gland in the hole 11.
