Abstract

1,178,579. Cable joints. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE BOULAY. 16 June, 1967 [27 June, 1966], No. 27842/67. Heading H2E. A device for providing a sealed joint between a wire-armoured electric cable and an appliance or machine comprises a cylindrical metal body a, a nut g, a conical member h and a cylindrical member j bevelled at one end to form a cutter. When the nut g is screwed into the body a, the cutter j shears the plastics insulation outside the armouring wires k which have been opened out by the conical member h as seen in Fig. 2. On further tightening, the cutter, of softer metal than the armouring wires, is opened outwards and compresses the insulation into the space e to form a seal, and the ends of the wires k bend over and are anchored in the recess i between the two cones h 1 and h 2 of the member h. The body a is screwed by means of its external thread b into an appliance, and sealed thereto by the seal c.
