Abstract
1389846 Cable glands HAWKE CABLE GLANDS Ltd 17 May 1972 [20 April 1972] 18502/72 Heading H2E [Also in Division F2] A cable gland comprises a gland body 10 having an internal annular recess 18 housing a part 20 of a resilient seal 22, the other part 24 of the seal extending, in the undeformed position, inwardly of the body. The engagement of the seal with the cable permits movement thereof in either direction. A number of L, U, T, D, and I-section seals are described (Fig. 5, not shown), and the annular recess takes different shapes according to which seal in used (Fig. 6, not shown). Preferably, the volume of the recess is larger than the volume of that part of the seal occupying it in the undeformed state. As shown, the body has a frusto-conical section 26 preferably knurled and an end-piece 16 threaded on to the body for gripping cable armour 28. A separate wedge piece (44) may grip the cable sheath, the piece 18 being extended and co-operating with a nut (46) to grip a compression seal (48) of the kind described in Specification 1,037,048 (Fig. 4, not shown). Alternatively, piece 18 and portions 12 and 26 may be dispensed with, body 10 being heldin position by a bush (40) or a flange (50) (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown).
