Abstract
1,235,848. Cable terminations. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd. 30 Jan., 1969 [30 Jan., 1968], No. 4789/68. Heading H2E. A cable termination for a mineral insulated cable, e.g. MgO, comprises the bared conductor 1 secured to a sleeve 14 which secures a polyethylene cap 5 placed over a layer of sealing putty 4. The putty fills a well within the cable sheath 3, and secures cap 5 at 9. An aperture 8 in cap 5 is tapered so that the tapered end 15 of sleeve 14, and integral or metal barbs 16, may be compressed against conductor 1. Sleeve 14 is secured to conductor 1 by cement and/or by gripping it. The latter is effected either by sliding on and then heating a sleeve which shrinks on heating, or by forcing on a permanently elastic sleeve, such as P.V.C., preferably by a tubular shaped tool acting against a flange on the sleeve (not shown).
