Abstract
645,797. Cable end seals. PYROTENAX, Ltd. Oct. 15, 1948, No. 26881. [Class 36] An end seal for a cable having pulverulent mineral insulation comprises a pot, cylinder or ferrule embracing the end of the cable sheath and packed with a thermosetting insulating material in the putty-like condition. An internally threaded metal cylinder A is screwed on to the cable sheath B and packed with an uncured thermosetting material E such as Silastic. The bared conductors C, preferably covered with insulating sleeves G are threaded through apertures in a closure plug D, which is then inserted in the mouth of the cylinder A. This compresses the filling E, any surplus being forced out between the plug D and cylinder A. The mouth of the cylinder is then crimped over the outer surface of plug D. The filling E may be left in the uncured state, in which case it will be converted to its rubber-like state if the cable or seal is subjected to an excessive temperature, or it may be cured on completion of the seal.
