Abstract
533,380. Cable joints; junction boxes. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., and SHUTTLEWORTH, H. Aug. 30, 1939, No. 24926. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] A joint for a cable end includes a tubular member extending inward from the wall &c. through which the cable passes, fitting over the cable sheath and a flexible cover or sleeve sealing the external surfaces of the inwardly projecting parts of the tubular member and the cable sheath. In the example shown a junction box 1 comprises a casing welded to one end plate 3 which has an aperture for a gland 25 with inwardly projecting tube through which the cable with sheath 15 extends. A flexible sealing sleeve 16 is bound over the ends of tube and sheath. At the other end a plate 2 is bolted to a ring in the casing and itself bears a tubular member 14 extending both inward and outward the inner and being sealed by a sleeve 16. The sleeves may comprise rubber, or insulating tape. Outer sleeves &c. 24 may be applied additionally. Clips 22, 23 serve to secure external wire armouring. In a modification the inner tubular member extends inwards from the outer end of an external element. Specification 481,593, [Group VIII], is referred to.
