Abstract
756,747. Preventing access of moisture; junction-boxes. CABLES & PLASTICS, Ltd. Oct. 14, 1954 [Oct. 19, 1953], No. 28764/53. Class 38 (1). A sealing gland for an armoured cable comprises two parts 2, 3 which screw together and clamp the cable armouring 17 between conical faces 5, 16, a sealing ring 6 being provided in an annular groove on member 2, and sealing rings 20, 11 being compressed round the cable by a threaded cap 19 and a bush 10, respectively. The face 5 is serrated as may be the bottom of the annular groove and shoulders 14 and 22 on members 2, 3 to ensure a good grip on the sealing rings. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) provision is made for a cable having two layers of armouring by providing a ring between the conical faces of the members, one layer being clamped on either side of the ring. An extension sleeve 26 (Fig. 4) may be screwed on to the gland and the cable conductors 27 can be secured therein to other conductors 29 traversing an insulating washer 30 held in position by a circlip 31.
