[Also in Group XXVI] A sealing device for an electric cable comprises a hollow body 2 having a cable entry 7, a sleeve 9 of elastomeric material having an end 13 pressed by a nut 19 into sealing contact with the cable and a moulded body 20 of insulating material within the sleeve and penetrating into the cable. The sleeve 9, of natural or synthetic rubber, is provided with a tapered end surface 14 co-operating with a similar surface 8 on the hollow body 2, which is secured by a nut 56, metal washer 58 and sealing ring 55 to a wall 49 of a pressurized container. As applied to 4-core coaxial cable, the cable is fed through the entry 7 and the bore 15 of the sleeve, the inner and outer conductors 29, 28 are connected by soldering and by ferrules 34 respectively to tail cables 30 and a cold-setting synthetic resin is poured into the interior of the sleeve 9 and allowed to set. The nut 19 is finally tightened and the mating surfaces of the body 2, sleeve 9 and insulating body 20 are forced into sealing contact. To prevent crushing of the outer sheath when a collet 43 is screwed on the jaws 6 of the entry 7, the insulating material may be poured into the cut-back end of the cable to a distance indicated by the line 45, before assembly of the cable into the body 1 and sleeve 9. Where screened cores are used, an additional disc 46 of insulating material, such as a silicone composition, may be used.
