Abstract
666,667. Sleeve couplings; cable joints. ENFIELD CABLES, Ltd., SUTTON, C. T. W., and HANKINS, W. E. Oct. 6, 1950 [Aug. 29, 1949], No. 20742/49. Class 38 (i). A multi-layer cable joint is made by stripping the insulation 1, 2 to expose the outer layer 9 of the stranded conductors which are cut back and bevelled at 3, 4 and then spread out on one side 2 of the joint. There is then wholly slid thereon a sleeve 5 which is internally chamfered at 6 and has a slot 7 at one end, the slot being wider than a strand so that the latter can be easily inserted through the slot. The cable ends to be joined are abutted and the sleeve 5 slid over the join till one end fits the bevel 3 on the cable end 1. A strand 9 is pushed through the slot 7 which may be skewed and the sleeve is turned so that the strands can be pushed in turn into position through the slot. When all the strands 9 are in position, the sleeve is given a fraction of a turn to retain them and solder is poured into it through an aperture 8 therein. The joint is finally sealed and the cableinsulation restored.
