Abstract
589,432. Cable joints. HOLMAN, H. E. March 28,1945, No. 7893. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A connector for joining braided cables comprises a thin conducting sleeve 5, which is secured by grooves 7 to the cable-sheath 4 and has a flange 6 on the surface of which the braiding 3, after removal of the sheath 4, is spread out, and which is engaged by a coupling sleeve 12. A cup 8 having serrations 9 which are bent over the flange may be provided to hold the braiding in position against the flange. The join in the cable conductor 1 is insulated by a split sleeve 16 from a split tubular metal casing 14 to the ends of which are screwed the coupling sleeves 12, thereby maintaining the continuity of the braiding. A sealing-washer 13 may be provided between the flange and the sleeve 12. The invention is applicable to a plug-and-socket connector, and the sleeve 12 may be screwed direct to the threaded boss of a junction box, Fig. 4 (not shown).
