Abstract

560,342. Cable joints. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., and HOLTTUM, W. Nov. 25, 1942, No. 16703. [Class 38 (i)] An insulating tube 6 surrounding a cable joint and overlapping the ends 4 of the insulation of the cables, is spaced therefrom by hollow insulating members 7 abutting on the cable insulation and secured in place by insulating tape, cord, &c. 9 passed round the cable insulation 4, through the members 7 and through holes 8 in the tube 6. Two members 7 located at right angles may be used, the tape &c. 9 being passed under and over the cable end and then over the edge of the tube 6 to form a second bight under the cable as shown in dotted lines. The tube 6 may be formed by wrapping pasted paper on a mandrel and the members 7 may be made similarly. The tube 6 may be mounted at an inclination to the cable axis so as to allow free escape of air when the surrounding casing is filled with compound.
