Abstract

555,152. Electric cables. LANE, N. Feb. 3, 1942, No. 1429. [Class 36] An electric cable has two or more conductors insulated by granulated or particulated dry sand or fused silica, the cable having concentric conductors or a multicore within an outer sheath. The sheath may consist of copper or steel tape, lead tubing or combined copper tape and lead tubmg. The cable is made by drawing the inner conductor IC through a hopper H containing the insulating material, with which it passes to a taping-head TH<SP>1</SP> where the outer sheath or conductor OS is formed. The cable then passes to a second taping-head TH" where a steel sheath PS is applied, and this may be covered by a lead or other damp-excluding sheath. Spacing pieces may be applied during manufacture to maintain the disposition of the conductors, and the cable ends should be closed or plugged.
