Abstract

581,263. Cable joints. HENLEY'S TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd., W. T., and WHEELER, H. S. Aug. 16, 1944, No. 15631. [Class 38 (i)] In a cable joint, the joined ends of the cores 1, 2 are surrounded by an insulating tube 3 and two spacers 4 are arranged between the tube and the core ends, the spacers being formed by a wrapping of corrugated insulating strip material wound round the cores with the ends of the wrapping overlapping and interlocking. The strip may be made of presspahn, having a thickness of about 40 mils, and may be used as a spacer for different radial clearances between the cores and the tube simply by stretching, or compressing the strid to alter the height of the corrugations or by having several complete turns round the core instead of one. The overlapping of the ends also, as shown, assures a slight slope of the tube 1 in order to prevent trapped air during the pouring in of an insulating compound between the tube and the cores.
