Abstract
872,790. Cable couplings. PIRELLIGENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd. Nov. 27, 1959 [Jan. 7, 1959], No. 629/59. Class 38 (1). The core 1 of a main cable 2 is jointed at 5 to the core 3 of a branch cable 4, the armour wires 6 of the cable 2 having been cut at 7. A metal bond comprising longitudinally-split cylinders 8, 9 joined by webs 10 is positioned so that the cylinder 8 encircles the insulation of core 1 and cylinder 9 encircles the insulation of core 3, the wires 6 being clamped around the cylinder 8 and the armour wires 13 of the cable 4 being clamped around the cylinder 9. In the case of a branch T-joint (Fig. 3, not shown), the core 3 of the branch cable does not extend through the cylinder 9 around which its armour wires are clamped. When, simply, two lengths of cable are to be jointed the bond consists of a single split cylinder only.
