Abstract

914,698. Two-part couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Aug. 24, 1961 [Aug. 26, 1960], No. 29559/60. Addition to 880,407. Class 38 (1). A modification of the cable coupling member described in the parent Specification comprises contacts 1 (Fig. 2) each housed in a separate tunnel in one part 15 of a two-part insulating block 13, 15 and urged to project beyond a face of the block by a spring 8 acting between the contact and an abutment 9 in the other part of the block to form a waterproof joint with a flexible diaphragm 5 which makes a waterproof joint with the block at its periphery. The face of the block may be disposed normal or oblique to the cable entry axis, instead of being parallel to it as in Fig. 3, and the recess housing the stripped cable portions may be filled with a setting insulating material. The coupling comprises two similar parts (each as in Fig. 3) engageable by means of projections 40 and accommodating slots 42 in rotatable clamping members 39. Clamping screws 43 being provided. The cable sheath and the armouring are clamped by sleeves 34 and 35.
