Abstract

856,106. Two-part couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. March 10, 1959 [March 11, 1958], No. 7842/58. Class 38(1) A coupling box for terminating an electric cable 4 with armouring 5 comprises a metal casing 1 secured at one end to a separate metal cable entry 2, two or more metal pillars 10 fastened at one end to the cable entry, cable conductor terminal sockets 15 held in spaced relationship in an insulator 11 which is mounted within the casing on the pillars 10 and an auxiliary cable conductor terminal 26, e.g. an earthing terminal, formed integral with or mounted on one of the pillars, the internal dimensions of the casing 1 being such that it can be moved into position for fastening to the cable entry 2 after the remainder of the box has been assembled. In the embodiment shown the auxiliary terminal 26 has a split clamp portion which is adjustable along one of the pillars, and the terminal sockets 15 are contained in symmetrically arranged passages 16 in the insulator 11, relative rotation between sockets and insulator being prevented by portions 17, 18 and axial movement being prevented by a spring collar 19. In use the box is bolted to a complementary fitting having either terminal plugs or similar terminal sockets which are electrically connected to those in the box by double-ended plug connectors.
