Abstract

616,646. Two-part couplings. CARTER, J. G., and NESCO PRODUCTS, Ltd. Sept. 16, 1946, No. 27768. [Class 38 (i)] A two-part coupling comprises two or more stud contacts housed in an insulating block 10 having one (or more) peripheral lugs 101 co-operating with a groove on an internally-threaded metal or insulating housing 1, whereby the block may slide within the housing without rotation, insulated contacts within the housing being engaged by the contacts on the block when a threaded member 3 is screwed into the housing. The member 3 is axialty bored to freely receive a cable 5 attached to the contacts 8, 9, a rubber washer 11 surrounding the cable being compressed to grip the cable and the sides of the housing when the member 3 is screwed right in. In Fig. 1, the insulated contacts within the housing are carried on a block 14 forming an arrangement similar to that described, but in Fig. 3 (not shown) an insulating block containing the fixed contacts closes the housing which may have threaded rings on its exterior to mount it on a panel. The housing may alternatively form part of an electrical instrument, e.g. a microphone, and in Fig. 6 (not shown) the threaded member 3 is formed by the end of the microphone stand.. The coupling may be rendered water-proof by fitting a rubber sleeve over it, Fig. 7 (not shown).
