[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A time-controlled switch for connecting a load L to a source E comprises contacts S<SP>2</SP>, S<SP>1</SP> actuated by switch-on and switch-off cams C<SP>2</SP>, C<SP>1</SP>, both of the slow build-up and quick release type, a thermal switch S<SP>3</SP> being connected in parallel with the contacts S<SP>2</SP> and arranged to close a short time after the latter, so that no sparking occurs as the contacts S<SP>2</SP> slowly open. The heater T of the switch S<SP>3</SP> is de-energized when the contacts S<SP>1</SP> open and may alternatively be connected in parallel with the load L. One contact of the switch S<SP>3</SP> is carried by a bimetal strip and the co-operating contact may be similarly mounted to compensate for ambient temperature variation. The apparatus may be incorporated in an electric clock and control a radio receiver.
