Abstract
567,471. Thermal switches ; actuation of switches ; contacts. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ROSEBY, P. N. Aug. 12, 1943, No. 13039. [Class 38 (v)] A pair of spring blades 19, 20 are interconnected by a spring 21 to form a toggle which is movable in opposite directions by bimetal elements 13, 14 insulatingly carrying heater coils 15, 16. The lower blade 20 carries a contact engageable with either of two load-contacts 17, 18, for which purpose the U-shaped support 10 is preferably metallic and connected to one pole. The contact 20 may also open the heater circuit after it has been changed over, but preferably the blade 19 carries a contact co-operating with a contact on each strip 13, 14 to open the appropriate heater circuit. By insulating the blades 19, 20 from one another, the load and heater circuits can be kept independent. Circuit diagrams are set out in Figs. 4-6 (not shown), Specification 566,122, [Group XXXVIII], being referred to in respect of one circuit. Contacts.-To ensure proper engagement of the upper-blade contact when being pushed by the strips, it is made of a bar of precious metal with its axis at right-angles to similar bars on the strips themselves.
