Abstract

665,181. Thermal switches; snap-action switches. HOOVER (ELECTRIC MOTORS), Ltd., and STARKEY, C. V. May 12, 1950. [May 26, 1949] No. 14119/49. Class 38 (v). A switch especially for opening the circuit of a motor on excessive temperature or high current, comprises a bimetal strip 10, heated by the current, and contacts 11, 12, the latter and the bimetal 10 being carried by overlapping metal strips 13, 14, which are rigidly connected together by rivets 15, 16, and are insulated from each other by washers 17 ... 20. The bimetal 10 is welded to a tongue 21 on strip 14 and carries a T-shaped member 28 supporting a trifurcated blade spring 22 carrying the contact 11, the opening movement of which is adjustable by a screw 32 so as to set the temperature at which the bimetal recloses the contacts. The contacts may, alternatively, be reclosed by a push-button. The strips 13, 14 are fixed to the casing 25 by lead-in terminals .24, and the fixed contact 12 is formed by the head of a screw received in rivet 16.
