Abstract
808,715. Thermal switches; control of A.C. motors. ELLENBERGER & POENSGEN G.m.b.H. Jan. 23, 1957 [July 19, 1956], No. 2522/57. Classes 38 (3) and 38 (5). A thermal and electric overload protection switch 1 comprises a bi-metallio strip 4 heated by a heating coil 5 and carrying a contact 9 which co-operates with a contact 10 mounted on a spring 11 provided with an adjustable stop 12. The switch is connected in the circuit to be protected through a terminal strip 8, via a bridge member 7, and a terminal strip 13. Passage of overload current through the heating coil 5 causes upward deflection of the bi-metal 4 and a following upward movement of the spring 11 until movement of the spring is arrested by the stop 12 when the contacts 9, 10 open. The switch may be combined, as shown, with a bimetallic motor-starting switch 2 of the type described in Specification 788,654, [Group XXXVI], the switches being mounted in separate compartments in a housing with the terminals brought out either through the cover 27 (Fig. 7, not shown) or between the cover and base.
