Abstract
1414072 Circuit breaker WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 19 Feb 1973 [8 March 1972] 8000/73 Heading H1N A multipole circuit breaker having a trip bar 119, common to all poles to automatically open the switch contacts, is provided with a separate fuse 195 for each pole supported in the circuit breaker housing but without the trip bar housing 110. Each fuse is connected in series with the contacts 21, 27 of its associated pole, and comprises a plunger 207 limited in movement by stop 213 and carrying an actuator 209 which in operation of the fuse to open the circuit pushes a spring biased plunger 217 into contact with the trip bar 119 to rotate it about pivot 122 thus releasing latch 61 to trip the circuit breaker. The plunger remains extended after operation so that the switch cannot be reset without replacement of the fuse. The circuit breaker is also provided with thermal tripping means comprising a bimetallic strip 159 deflecting the trip bar 119 via adjustable screw 165. There is also a magnetic tripping means comprising a laminated U-shaped member 126 through the legs of which main conductor 171 passes, there being a pivoted spring-biased movable armature 131 connected to the trip bar 119 via a rod 135 with a head 137. Adjustment of the magnetic tripping means is by knob 143. All openings in the trip bar housing are small enough to prevent access to parts inside it.
