Abstract

1426589 Circuit breakers WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 18 May 1973 [1 June 1972] 23734/73 Heading H1N In a circuit breaker having within its housing a trip device with adjusting means 53 there is an adjusting tool access opening in the wall 9 of the housing adjacent the adjusting means 53, in which opening there is a barrier supported by the housing and comprising a fixed part 101 and a part 103 movable to close the opening. Both parts are retained in a groove 93 in the wall of the housing and initially the movable part of the barrier is in the open position so that adjustment of the trip device can be carried out. When adjustment is complete, this movable part is slid shut and a tang 105 snaps into interlocking engagement with the upper surface 106 of the fixed part of the barrier and retains the moving part in the shut position so that it cannot be opened from outside the housing. Vent openings 107, 109 are provided in the barrier parts. The circuit breaker is described as having thermal tripping means in the form of a bimetal strip 51 and also electromagnetic tripping means, the adjusting means 53 of the trip device being an adjustable belt through the bimetal strip which acts on a trip bar (49), Fig. 2, not shown. The movable contacts of all poles are pivoted on a common bar and rotate to make or break contact with a fixed contact in an arc extinguishing unit. The tripping means is connected via a toggle and overcentre spring to the movable contact, and a handle is provided for manual operation and resetting.
