Abstract

758,558. Automatic circuit breakers. ELLENBERGER & POENSGEN GES. April 9, 1954 [April 21, 1953], No. 10465/54. Class 38(5) A multi-pole cirucuit-breaker comprises an insulating base 1 carrying fixed clip contacts 3 and bimetal strips 4 with heaters 6, a contact 3 and bimetal strip being associated with each pole, and those of adjacent poles being located at 180 degrees with respect to each other. Above the base is an 'insulating member 7 carrying L-shaped bridging contacts 12, the vertical portions 13 of which engage the contacts 3 when member 7 is pressed downwards against springs 15 by, a spring- loaded button 16. Member 7 is retained in the switch-closed position by locking lugs 8 on the bimetal strips, Fig. 6, which during said movement of member 7 are deflected by cam faces 24 so that they hook over the horizontal portions of contacts 12 and also complete the connections therethrough. The free ends 9 of the bimetal strips project through holes in a slidable plate 10 which is engagable bv a slide 20 mounted in the circuit-breaker casing. The breaker may thus be opened by deflection of -the bimetal strips to release lugs 8 either by the heaters 6 or manually by the slide 20. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 709,114.
