Abstract

1,166,707. Automatic circuit - breakers. ELLENBERGER & POENSGEN G.m.b.H. 29 Nov., 1967 [22 Feb., 1967], No. 54405/67. Heading H1N. A push-button operated, trip-free, overloadresponsive circuit-breaker with thermal and/or electromagnetic release has a bridging contact 14 mounted in an insulating carrier comprising two parallel plates 15, 16, see Fig. 4 (not shown), connected by a rivet 17, the carrier being freely pivotable on and slidable axially relative to a control rod 21 rigidly connected to the pushbutton 20, and a projection 25 on the control rod 21 is disposed such that during closing of the breaker it engages notches 32 on the carrier to move it into locking engagement with a holding detent 33 on the release means, e.g. a bimetal strip 10, and the contacts 13 of the bridging contact 14 engage two fixed contacts 7, 12, mounted side by side on the opposite side of the control rod 21 to detent 33. The opening spring 28 of the breaker is a U-shaped spring wire with its two arms 30 bent to V-shape and their free ends 29 engaging in slots 31 in the housing parts 1, 2, whilst the connecting web of the arms engages in slot-shaped recesses 27 of the insulating plates 15, 16 to bias the bridge carrier upwardly. Upon release the inclined upper side 42 of the carrier 15, 16 engages the upper wall of the housing so that the carrier pivots about rivet 17 and disengages the contacts 13 from the fixed contacts. Control rod 21 has a return spring 23, and the push-button 20 may be black with a white lower part visible only in the " off " position. Part 37 of the bimetal adjusting member 36 and the holding detent 33 are both of a heat-resistant insulating material, e.g. ceramic. Projection 25 has ends guided in grooves 26 in the housing parts 1 and 2, see also Figs. 5, 6 (not shown).
