Abstract

955,587. Automatic circuit breakers. ELLENBERGER & POENSGEN G.m.b.H. July 5, 1962 [July 21, 1961], No. 25921/62. Heading H2B. In a push-button switch comprising an operating mechanism, angular contact bridge and thermal release generally similar to those of Specification 828,754, the control member 13 is formed from sheet metal (e.g. brass) rigidly secured to the end of the control rod 7 and has a projection 15 which engages in an aperture 16 in the contact bridge to move the latter towards its on position when the push-button is depressed. The latch 34, which also forms a contact, consists of a piece of sheet copper riveted into an aperture in the bi-metal strip 27. The aperture is formed by pressing out a portion 41 of the bi-metal which together with a cranked portion 41<SP>1</SP> forms a cam surface over which the contact bridge runs during closing. As shown, the bi-metal 27 responds to overload current in a heating coil 38. In a modification the coil is omitted and the casing 1 is provided with apertures so that the bi-metal is responsive to ambient temperature.
