Abstract

482,822. Automatic circuit-breakers. MIDLAND ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and VICARY, A. W. Sept. 3, 1936, No. 24112. [Class 38 (v)] A thermally-tripped overload multi-pole switch comprises a pivoted member d carrying, in the case of a three-pole switch, contacts e adapted to be pressed into engagement with three pairs of fixed contacts b by depression of a hand push h, the switch being then latched in the closed position by a spring-biassed lever o carrying an insulating sleeve m which overlaps the end n of the member d. The lever o is U-shaped, being pivoted at z and carrying the sleeve m on its middle portion. It also has an extension q which may be engaged by a hand push r to trip the switch open manually. The overload release consists of three bimetallic strips s heated by heating coils w. On overload one or more of the strips moves the sleeve m to release the contact arm d which is rotated about its pivot y by a spring k. Adjustment for current setting may be effected by sliding a member 6 along the end of a bimetal strip s, the position of the member 6 being determined by a projection engaging one of two recesses. The sleeve m may consist of several portions which may be fixed or rotatable. The trunnion y on the arm d, engages a fixed slot z, and normally occupies the position shown. It may, however, be pulled by hand into the dotted position to allow the contacts to be exposed.
