Abstract

502,354. Automatic circuit-breakers. STOTZ - KONTAKT GES. Sept. 14, 1937, No. 24989. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1936. [Class 38 (v)] An automatic circuitbreaker with a toggle-lever mechanism connected at one end with the pushbutton or handle and at the other with a lever carrying a contact, has its togglelever joint brought into operation (tripping) position before contact can take place, by arranging the contact near to the position where its carrying-lever is pivoted to the toggle, the remote end of this lever being in a fixed position, and arranging the second contact on another lever having an opening spring which lever, by means of a lug on the push-button or handle is only.moved to " on " position after the closing movement of the first contact is nearly completed. One contact d is mounted on a lever c which rests on a projection b on the base and is urged to open position by a spring e. The other contact g is mounted on a current-carrying bimetal strip h. The toggle n, p is insulatingly connected at m to strip h and at u to the press-button' j which is mounted in a guide i. When j is depressed, the extended toggle is moved to a position in which a stop r is engageable by the strip h (or other release device). As contact g nears its " on " position, a lug s on the button engages the contact-carrier c and moves it so that d engages g. The parts are locked by means of the pin u engaging a notch v in the slot t. On overload, the strip h deflects upwards and engages r, so breaking the toggle and withdrawing u from v. A spring (not shown) moves the button j to the "off" position, so resetting the toggle, and allowing e to move c to the " off position. The Specification refers to modifications of the release means.
