Abstract

1,041,407. Automatic circuit - breakers. ELLENBERGER & POENSGEN G.m.b.H. April 23, 1963 [April 28, 1962], No. 16043/63. Heading H2B. A polyphase, push-button, moulded case, overload circuit-breaker has a separate bimetal trip for each phase all acting on a pivoted locking lever 24 which releases a latch 28 allowing this to pivot under a torsion spring 44 to release a control bridge 31 which moves upwards under a spring bias 32 to lift a number of bridging contacts 13, insulatingly mounted on the control bridge, away from co-operating fixed contacts 12, 14 and to allow push-button 8 to move upwards under its spring bias 43. The breaker is reset by depressing button 8 when an extension 38 thereof engages a projection on the middle contact assembly 13 to drive the control bridge 31 downwards until the end of control bridge 31 engages with the latch 28. Subsequent release of button 8 allows the spring 32 to pivot the control bridge to bring the contacts into engagement. The position and thus the tripping current of the bi-metals is adjustable by screws 18. The breaker may be manually tripped open by a sliding button 9 engaging an extension 26 of the locking lever 24. Auxiliary signalling contacts 56, 60 (Figs. 7, 9, 10, not shown), are mounted in the casing and operated through slides 58 by the control bridge 31.
