Abstract

1,147,505. Automatic circuit breakers. ELLENBERGER & POENSGEN G.m.b.H. 6 Nov., 1967 [10 Nov., 1966], No. 50408/67. Heading H1N. The push-button operator 34 of an overload switch is coupled to the contact bridge 16 by a pair of links 27, 29 pivoted together at 28 on the button and contact bridge at 30, 26 respectively; the link 29 has an arm 29<SP>1</SP> normally latched by a half shaft 44 rotatable by the overload mechanism and in the on position of the switch pivot pin 30 is latched by a pawl 41 pivoted at 40 to a fixed frame and attached to the link 27 by a spring 42. On overload, bimetals 20 act through a lever 46 or an electromagnet 51 acts through a lever 45 to rotate shaft 44 releasing arm 29<SP>1</SP> so that a spring 54 collapses the linkage 27, 29 to open contacts 14-18; the tension in spring 42 is thus released and pawl 41 releases pin 30 allowing the push button to move out of the case. The switch is reset by pushing button 34; the link 29 pivots about the shaft 44 to straighten the linkage until pawl 41 relatches pin 30. Manual release is by pulling button 34 when a projection 43 on the pushbutton engages and releases the pawl 41. The bimetals 20 of three phases act on lever 46 through levers 61 pivoted on a sliding plate 56 which may co-operate with a temperature compensating bimetal (not shown). The arrangement causes an overload in one phase to trip the switch more quickly than a balanced overload. Coils (11) of each phase (Fig. 5, not shown) are wound on a common core 53 cooperating with a single tripping armature 50. The casing 1 of the switch is formed with an external recess 69 in which an indicating switch can be located, its operating rod extending through an opening 70 to engage the member 21 carrying the contact bridges 16.
