Abstract

624,038. Thermal switches. WATKINS, B. E., and A. E. W., Ltd. March 18, 1947. No. 7485. [Class 38(v)] A snap-action, thermostatically-operating switch has a moving contact 11 carried by an E-shaped spring, of which the centre limb 1 is bimetallic and fixed at the end 2 and the outer limbs 14 are supported in V-grooves 16 in a vertically adjustable plate 17. This adjustment may be effected through a bimetallic link to compensate for ambient temperature. The fixed contact 5 is mounted on a spring 10 and follows the contact 11 over dead-centre to avoid arcing when the latter contact moves to control the circuit. A bellows or Bourdon tube may operate the switch in place of the bimetallic limb.
