Abstract

626,995. Snap-action switches; pressbutton retractive switches; switches held set and freed mechanically. SMITH, E. S. March 11, 1947, No. 6779. [Class 38(v)] A snap-action switch comprises a pair of resilient contact blades 1, 10 the blade 10 being slotted to form a trifurcated snap-action spring having its middle compression leg 11 pivoted on an extension 14a of the terminal bar 14. A backstop 7 with an adjusting screw 8 for the snap-action blade is mounted on an insulating bar 5 fixed to the other blade 1, whereby movement of the latter in either direction also moves the blade 10 to a point where it snaps over dead-centre to open or close the contacts. The switch may be constructed as a normally open or normally closed switch, or one which remains in either position by adjusting the initial set of the blade 1. The switch may be operated through a cam follower 6; alternatively (Fig. 7 not shown) the switch frame may carry push-buttons to engage the insulating strip to open and close the switch.
