Abstract
1391192 Thermal switches; mechanical switches ERNST DREEFS GmbH 14 April 1972 [21 March 1972] 17353/72 Heading H1N A switching device comprises a snap-action switch having a working contact gap determined by a stop carried at one end of a spring- biased slide movable by an operating member to an OFF position where it determines a contact gap greater than said working gap, a member at the other end of the slide opening a further contact pair when the slide is moved into said OFF position. As shown, an energy regulator or thermostat comprises a trifurcated blade spring 9 carrying a contact cooperating with a fixed contact 1, and having its two outer tensioned limbs carried by an insulating member 7 on a lever 10 movable by a member 11 coupled to a temperature sensor (not shown) such as a bimetallic strip or diaphragm or bellows connected to a liquid-filled capillary tube. A setting shaft 17 has an integral cam 18 and a further cam (not visible) for adjusting the regulator. A back stop 13 is carried on a slide 12 normally urged by spring 14 to provide a micro-gap as shown. When the shaft 17 is set to an OFF position the cam 18 moves slide 12 to the right and stop 13 provides a large contact gap (Fig. 3, not shown) whereby the erstwhile snap-action switch acts as part of a main switch. A further fixed contact 21 is provided and an abutment 26 on slide 12 lifts a contact lever 22 out of engagement therewith when shaft 17 is set to OFF. A spring 24 acting on lever 22 may be utilized to provide a circuit from contact 21, via lever 22, to a plate 16 which can be connected to a pilot lamp. A yet further main contact (not described) may be provided for a three-pole device. The lever 10 may be of bimetal to provide temperature compensation.
