Abstract
850,549. Snap-action switches; thermal switches. MACLAREN & CO. Ltd., R., RICHMOND, T. G., ADAM, I. R., and KING, D. M. March 26, 1959 [April 15, 1958], No. 11955/58. Class 38 (5). A snap-action switch employs a plate 10 held out of a true plane by a plate 12 so that it will snap through its flat position and is acted upon or adjusted by (if the plate 10 is a bi-metal) pressure on two points (by screws 18) one on each side of the part secured at 15 at a place remote from the moving contact 13. The construction shown uses a bimetallic plate and screw 19 is the temperature setting control. In a modification (not shown) screw 19 acts through a first order lever to adjust a tension spring which applies force to the plate to make it impossible to over stress it. In a further modification (not shown) an external rod is provided to take the switch operating force and the plate is not bimetallic. Some form of heat sensitive device for example a rod and tube assembly is used to contact the switch.
