Abstract
1,170,763. Thermal switches; mechanical switches. OTTER CONTROLS Ltd. 17 March, 1967 [29 March, 1966], No. 13939/66. Heading H1N. A control unit, e.g. for an immersion heater having two elements (2, Fig. 1), includes two bimetals 16 adapted to operate at different temperatures and/or heat outputs and mounted on a lid 12 of a housing 11 and a manual selector switch 15 for preselecting one of the bimetals for operation and also being mounted on lid 12. Each bimetal comprises a snapacting element 16 as described in Specification 657,434 or 600,055, carrying a contact 26 on its movable tongue 18 and connected at its bridge through an insulating block (21, Fig. 4) and an L-shaped bracket (22, Fig. 4) to lid 12. Part 23 of bracket (22) carries a double-ended fixed contact, one end 24 being co-operable with contact 26 and the other end 25 being selectively engageable with a double-ended movable contact 33 of the selector switch 15. Switch 15 is operated by a rocking lever 29 having pins 30 embracing L-shaped snap-action spring 31 which has one end secured to lid 12. If three or more bimetals are provided, the selector switch contact may be rotationally mounted, which movement may be remotely controlled through a Bowden cable.
