Abstract
923,217. Thermal switches. O. EBERLE, and H. KOHLER, [trading as EBERLE & KOHLER K.G.]. May 10, 1960 [May 14, 1959], No. 16461/60. Class 38 (5). A thermostatic electric switch comprises a bi-metallic contact spring and a separate arched leaf-spring acting as a toggle, one end of the leaf-spring being fixedly connected to the contact spring adjacent its contact, the other end being in engagement with an adjustable support. A bi-metallic blade 8a (Fig. 1), is riveted by a contact 11b to a bowed spring 8b, fulcrumed on a further spring blade 8c to form a bifurcated snap-action contact blade. Adjustment of the blade tension is obtained by a pre-set screw 4 in a threaded sleeve 2, the latter being rotatable through 360 degrees. The second contact 11a is carried by a bi-metallic blade 9 on which is mounted a back-stop 10a for controlling the contact spacing. In a second embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), the blade 9 is not itself temperature-responsive but is actuated by a further bi-metallic strip. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3), the " fixed" contact blade 17 is again bi-metallic and is mounted on a pivoted bell-crank 21, the position of the contact 20a being controlled by the pre-set screw 25 in a rotatable threaded sleeve 24. The bi-metal carrying the " fixed " contact is arranged to move in the same sense as the moving contact in order to decrease the operating force necessary and increase switch sensitivity.
