Abstract

958,319. Thermal switches. WILCOLATOR CO: April 24, 1962 [April 24, 1961], No. 15494/62. Heading H2B. A slow acting switch 10 comprises a pivoted operating lever 27 having a bridging contact 25 at one end and being acted on at the other end by fluid temperature responsive means for movement about a pivot point 30a intermediate its ends such that the contact 25 moves into and out of engagement with a pair of spaced stationary contacts. A control shaft 30 has its point 30a engaging in a recess 28 of lever 27 to form the pivot and is adjustable to set the operating temperature. A capsule 45 bears in a recess 47 on the other side of lever 27 against the bias of a leaf spring 35 to open the contacts with increase of temperature. The bridging contact 25 is self-aligning against the stationary contacts owing to the rounded point 30a, yet sufficient frictional resistance exists to inhibit movement as a result of vibration or jarring. The switch casing 11 has threaded openings 12b for receiving mounting screws.
