Abstract

594,854. Thermal switches. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd., and SHERLOCK, J. E. July 3, 1945, No. 16926. [Class 38(v)] The operating temperature of a fluidbellows type thermal switch is adjustable by a rotatable knob 27 carrying a cam 25, Fig. 4, which bears on a lever 22 which rocks about a pivot 23, so as to adjust the tension of an opening spring 15 carried by a screw 16 freely mounted in a bush 17 on a switch-arm 10, the initial tension of the spring 15 being pre-set by the screw 16. The arm 10 is movable about a pivot 11 on expansion of the bellows 5, so as to bridge terminals 14 with a spring-loaded contactplate 13 bearing on a knife-edge 33 formed on a stud 32. A snap-action is imparted by a permanent-magnet 35. When the end 29 of the cam 25 engages the lever 22, a part 30 thereon lifts the switch-arm 10 and holds the contacts open irrespective of temperature variations.
