Abstract

754,455. Thermal switches; tumbler switches. LITTELFUSE, Inc. Feb. 10, 1954 No. 3920/54. Class 38(5) An automatically and manually operable switch comprises a snap-acting bimetal blade carrying a contact normally engaging a fixed contact, the bimetal opening and closing the circuit on temperature changes, and a manually operable lever which in one position allows the bimetal to operate and in another position engages the bimetal to open the contacts. The bimetal 18 is trifurcated and bowed, and is urged against the head 26 of a mounting post 25 by a spring 28. Movable contacts 22 carried by the blade co-operate with fixed contacts 16. The operating lever 42 is mounted by a spherical part 43 in shaped openings in cover parts 31, 45 and has a spring plunger 49 co-operating with an undulating surface 39 on an inverted U-shaped lever 34 having rounded portions 35 engaging bearing recesses 32 in the base. The lever 34 has two pins 38 which are normally removed from the path of the blade 18 when lever 42 is in the Fig. 2 position, thereby permitting the automatic operation. If lever 42 is moved to the Fig. 1 position the pins 38 engage the side arms of the blade 18 which is forced over-centre to open the contacts which remain open until the lever 42 is restored.
