Abstract
979,800. Snap action switches; thermal switches. HOOVER Ltd. June 1, 1961 [June 7, 1960], No. 19866/61. Heading H2B. A switch comprises a pair of superimposed, spaced spring blades each having inner and outer prongs, the free ends of the inner prongs being pivoted together and the free ends of the outer prongs also being pivoted together. As shown, the switch is used to control an electric iron and is actuated by a bimetal strip 19 which may be mounted in a stack 15, or separately mounted in a well in the sole plate of the iron (Figs. 8, 9, not shown). One of the blades 11 is mounted in the stack 15 and its inner prong 33 engages the inner prong 42 of the other blade 12 at 52. The outer prongs 32, 49 interengage at a point 53, a cross-piece 46 of blade 12 carrying a contact 47 normally engaging a fixed contact 23. The bimetal 19 carries an insulating button 37 bearing on the end 36 of blade 11, the operating temperature being set by a screw 44 engaging a part 43 of blade 11.
