Abstract

739,071. Thermal switches; snap-action switches. C.A.V., Ltd. Sept. 2, 1953 [Sept. 17, 1952], No. 23302/52. Class 38 (5). A switch has one contact g mounted, for normal operation, on a push-pull plunger b, the co-operating contact k being carried by the centre limb of a three-limb bimetal element n which responds to overloads. The outer limbs of elements n are normally slightly bowed downwards with contact k projecting slightly upwards, as shown, the element n also being slightly bowed transversely. When heated, the element n snaps over to open the contacts rapidly. The plunger is located in its respective positions by spring-loaded balls e which engage recesses f in the body a and has an insulating button q engageable with the underside of element n so as to reset it when the plunger is pulled. In a modification, the element n may be initially bowed upwards and the contact g and button q interchanged.
