Abstract

776,142. Snap-action switches. HAYDON SWITCH, Inc. Sept. 11, 1951 [Sept. 16, 1950], No. 21392/51. Class 38(5) A switch intended to be operated by a slow-moving cam in which contact pressure is maintained up to the moment of snap-action, comprises a spring blade 30 formed with longitudinal slots 36 and crimped at 37. The greater part of the blade between the slots 36 is formed into an arch 38 such that the peak is offset to the arch centre towards that end of the blade fixed by a rivet 31 to a terminal member 11. A cam-operated actuator 39 has a tongue 40 passing freely through the terminal member 11 and a shoulder 43 abutting the peak of the arch 38 whereby on depression of the actuator 39 the blade 30 snaps into an S shape, the contact 33 leaving, a contact-carrying terminal member 12 and engaging a contact-carrying terminal member 13. The Specification gives the probable theory underlying the blade operation. The switch operation is adjustable by a screw 44 co-operating with a member 32 which bears against the underside of the crimped parts 37. The terminal members 11 .... 13 have holes 19 in their portions 18 beneath an insulating base 10 whereby wires may be soldered thereto; alternatively, as shown, members.20 ... 22 may be riveted in the holes 19 and the wires connected by screws 25.
