Abstract
807,522. Retractive switches; snap-action switches. HULBERT, C. LACY-. Dec. 29, 1955 [Jan. 1, 1955], No. 5/55. Class 38 (5). A snap-action switch comprises a bowed, contact-carrying blade 26 held under end compression by springs 32 and fixed by a screw or rivet 37 to the insulating head 24 of a plunger 20. Depression of the plunger causes the blade to snap through a dead-centre position so that contacts 28 disengage fixed contacts 13 and engage contacts 12. The switch may be retractive in which case the plunger is returned by a spring 35 as shown, or by a spring disposed round the upper end of the plunger. Alternatively the blade may be returned (a) by pulling the plunger, (b) by a second plunger disposed beneath the blade. The two springs 32 may be replaced by a single central spring moving through a longitudinal aperture in the blade. The fixed contacts 12, 13 and terminals 11 are mounted in an inner casing 10 inside an outer casing 15. The plunger may be wholly of insulating material. The arrangement may be used as a limit switch.
